Wish Every one Happy Diwali 2018

Diwali means Festival of Lights. In India, Diwali is one of the main Festivals.

Over the centuries, Diwali (Deepawali) Mean has become a national festival that is enjoyed by most Indians regardless of faith: Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs.

Hindus interpret the Diwali story based upon where they live:

  • In northern India, they celebrate the story of King Rama’s return to Ayodhya after he defeated Ravana by lighting rows of clay lamps.
  • Southern India celebrates it as the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura.
  • In western India, the festival marks the day that Lord Vishnu, the Preserver (one of the main gods of the Hindu trinity) sent the demon King Bali to rule the netherworld.

In all interpretations, one common thread rings true—the festival marks the victory of good over evil.

Irrespective of religion and communities any festival brings joy and happiness across people around us.

May this Diwali bring crackers of joy, fireworks of laughter and sweets of love. May the God bestow his grace on you and family. Happy Diwali!! to all of you across the world.

Why CashOS is not ERP?

One of the definitions we found for ERP goes like this “Enterprise resource
planning (ERP) is a method of efficiently utilizing people, hardware and
software to increase productivity and profit, thus simplifying a company’s
business processes.”.In fact, most of the definitions go along similar lines.
CashOS is different from an ERP in several ways.

1) A focus of CashOS is only on CASH.
Anything that smells or sounds like CASH, CASHOS can help. Some of the key
areas that come to mind are Raw materials, Finished goods, Collections,
Material under process. Another important feature of CashOS is that it tracks
TIME.There is an old saying Time is Money. I think Time is more than Money.
Because Money can be earned, but Time once gone, cannot be earned back.
No matter what. CashOS’s focus is on these two key elements of any
Business: Cash and Time

2) Data entry is done by people who do the work
Typically in most of the organizations, Computer access is only for a few ‘selected’ individuals. They may be supervisors or people with ‘higher’ educational qualifications.
Whereas in CashOS, every person who does an activity enters his / her activities directly into their smartphones.
3) Data is captured on Real-time
In CashOS data is captured as the work happens. Which means it is real time. Which could play a significant role in the decision-making process, unlike a delayed data capture system?

4) You don’t need computers to run your IT systems
Typically when we say IT, it means desktops or laptops. Whereas in CashOS you don’t need these at all. Except maybe for one or two.
There are several other differences, but in short, CashOS is a totally new way to look at running a business through Mobile Cloud Workflows. It may look like a ‘mobile ERP’ for a first-timer, but when you look deeper, you start appreciating what CashOS can help you achieve!!!

How CashOS can optimize TIME in your Organization? What does it mean?

Now let’s look at it from an individual perspective and understand what Time Optimization means and what could be its implications.

Imagine two individuals A & B.  One who gets the best out of his 24 hours. While the other just go with the flow. How does A manage to get the best? By planning and being prepared. So he anticipates how a day will go and plans for the best outcomes.
Now, what would B be doing? Just react to whatever is happening to him. Not taking proactive actions and not preparing for the future.

We see this all the time, isn’t it? Thought these are two extremes, it gives a sense of what would eventually happen to A & B. where they would end up 5, 10, 20 years from now. With respect to their financial situations, career growth, health, relationships etc.

Now let’s see from an organizations perspective. Could there be an A & B among organizations? Unlikely. Because usually organizations are run by smart people. But if you observe the difference between the best performing and worst performing organizations is not much. Maybe a few percentage points.

More importantly, it’s not just the people who run an organization that matters. It’s the people who execute which probably matter even more.

Now, How can you get your organization to optimize the time available an get the best outcomes? Try CashOS.

How CashOS can help you save precious TIME in your organization

Any organization which effectively and efficiently utilizes its employees time is most probably a market leader in its segment. At the end of the day, no matter the vision and strategy of the top management, it comes into fruition only if executed properly by the people in the front lines. It could be a delivery executive or a sales rep or picker in the stockroom.

Now how do you ensure people on the front lines are in sync with the vision of the organization? There are numerous instances where mid-level managers run into these challenges. Either because the staff n the front line dont see the vision and how it could help us them or due to reasons such as the poor relationship with their manager.

I am sure many of the readers reading this article would have observed in organziation which primarily deal with blue-collar kind of staff how difficult it is to get the work done. In fact, many organizations hire people who are ‘good’ in ‘handling and managing’ blue-collar staff. Repeated follows, verbal duels, arguments are a common thing.

Most often this leads to an unhealthy environment.

How about using Technology to achieve the same? Imagine a Picker in the stockroom using his own smartphone with the company’s app picking the items and then processing. Similarly, a Delivery boy gets a clear direction on his route and all he has to do is follow until his destination. Likewise imagine a sales guy, punching his attendance and orders on the phone.

In all these cases, the technology helps to serve as a self-regulating mechanism. It also has the capability to track the employees so it becomes easier to identify and reward the good performers while taking action against the poor ones. Eventually leading to a system which is ‘self-monitored’ with very minimal supervision.

Why Smartphone could be the center of every business in the future

Over the last decade or so, we have seen a revolution in mobile technology. From the ‘brick’ world of Motorola as recent as 1990-2000, we now see the smartphone market growing on almost a daily basis. New apps, new technologies etc

A few major trends:

1) People spend more time on their smartphone than anything else on any day
2) Cost of data has come down considerably
3) Computing power, storage and battery life of mobile phones is increasing dramatically

To illustrate the trends, We have taken a few charts from the internet.

All of these trends could indicate that the day is not very far when businesses will use Mobile phones to monitor, analyze and run their businesses.

How CashOS enables self-regulation in your team

                                                 Self-regulation vs External monitoring

There have been quite a few ‘innovations’ in organization structures to make them more efficient and effective. The ‘Matrix’ structure is quite common especially in the so-called ‘knowledge-driven ‘ industries such as IT. Whereas in traditional industries such as FMCG, Pharma etc, it still the same pyramid kind of a structure. One of the reasons could be due to the nature of work and also the background and educational levels of the people involved.

Most of these organizations have people to ‘get the work done’. Which in other way means that if there is no one to ‘get the work done’, the work will not get done. The implicit understanding is the people in these roles have no intrinsic motivation to complete their responsibilities. We will not go into the causes for this, but how to address this kind of situations.

If we look closely, the situation is not much different in the Knowledge-driven organizations either. For example, if we take an IT company, there would be a Project Manager, specifically monitoring and ensuring the project runs as per time schedules. And there would be a Functional Manager who provides the knowledge/expertise to make things happen smoothly.

This article doesn’t cover the Knowledge-driven industries, its main focus being an organization which has some kind of a physical product that moves from point A to Point B.

Let’s imagine staff in the warehouse of an FMCG manufacturer/Distributor is equipped with a smartphone (which he owns) and has some kind of mechanism to track all his work-related activities. Such as Attendance, productivity, break timings etc. Essentially he is tracking his / her own performance which will be reflected on his / her own dashboard to see. He can compare his performance vis a vis last week or last month or last quarter.

What would happen to this person’s performance? He will try to improve himself continuously and look for ways and means to achieve better results. It may not happen all the time, but at least most of them would probably try towards it. Which also means people will monitor themselves more than otherwise.

Now imagine an organization equipped with such a system? Such an organization needs fewer ‘managers’ whose task is just to ‘get the work done’.

If you were the CEO, which organization would you prefer?

Wondering how this is possible? CashOS can help.

What are the benefits of having clear visibility of your entire value chain?

We have seen several instances in the past where Executives who probably had good intentions often get blindsided by events happening somewhere in their organization. As an organization grows bigger and bigger, it becomes more complex with a lot of moving parts. Another challenge that comes up with larger organizations is the ‘silo’ thinking. Even senior executives start thinking quite narrowly to safeguard their own interests and further their departments, sometimes at the expense of other departments.

This is where having a complete visibility of the value chain can help someone with decision making authority.

A CEO need not go into the details of what’s happening in a department. If he has the key metrics of how each department is functioning and that too on a real-time basis, it helps her to not just keep track but also ask the right questions. This will help to ensure a healthy environment of responsibility and authority can co-exist. Moreover, such an environment will also lead to a high performing organization with little scope for individuals to ‘play’ with the system.

Question is how can CEO’s achieve this. One option is to go with the high investment, high tech model. The other is to look at solutions such as CashOS. Light footprint, Light tech, minimum cost and easy and quickly implementable.

Would you like to know how CashOS can help your organization to get a more clear view of your value chain?

Empower your workforce and increase profits

What does empowering means? In simple terms giving freedom to act while holding the employees accountable for their actions.

Now let’s take two extreme scenarios of two companies:
One, where employees have to report sharp at 9am. They get their daily assignment or they get onto their assigned tasks. Every move of them is monitored, every break measured, and they punch out at 6pm. The rotuine continues day in day out.

Two, where employees have apps installed on their mobile phones. They need to punch in the attendance themselves, enter their productivity themselves. And when they exit from the premises, they punch out on their mobile phones.

If you had to choose, which one would you prefer? I would go for the second option. Through out history we observe that human beings try to rebel and resist in a repressive environment. It could be countries, or companies. There are so many stories we have read as part of our studies where people at some point in time started resisitng the ‘oppressors’ and a rebellion took place.

Now the other scenario is more self regulating mechanism. Imagine all your employees are using their own devices and tracking their own movements and you have all the intelligence at your finger tips. Backed with some incentive programs, it could serve you to drive the employees to achieve higher levels of producvitiy and this better margins, better cashflows than you could have ever imagined.

CashOS is designed to help companies to achieve higher productivity with better margins. Would you like to learn more about how CashOS can help your company?

Focus on the right things

I am sure many would have heard ‘whatever you focus on improves’. What

does this mean? Let’s take the example of Health.

You, the person who is reading this article, where do you see your health on a scale of 0 to 10. Are you happy with the answer that comes to your mind?

If you are not happy, it could be only because you are not doing anything about it. Which means you are not dedicating an adequate amount of time and putting in the effort required to get into good shape.

Why does this happen? Is it because people are not aware? Or people don’t want to? Mot really. You ask anyone they want to have great health..well almost everyone. You will always find those outliers who really don’t care about such things!!!

Its just that Health may not be a priority for you or there are other things which you think are of higher priority. I have heard people saying things like they are so busy they can’t find time to exercise. That’s an extreme, isn’t it? How can anyone be so busy with things such as Health?

Another reason is what books such a The Slight Edge and Compound Effect touch upon. Whether you exercise today or not, it will not give you significantly different results. So people lose focus on long-term because of short-term results or lack of it.

The most effective way to get to the issue is to identify your priorities and focus on them. Let go of all other trivial or nonpriority issues or keep them for a low priority time.

Which means if Health is important for you, make it a priority, which means allocate time on a daily basis. If you are not giving time, what you are implicitly saying is Health is not a priority for you.

Now how does this apply to Business?

Very simple, whatever you focus on improves. Because by natural extension you are bound to take action.

There are so many systems and solutions today that address various challenges of an organization. Interestingly I haven’t seen any of them addressing the core issue of Cash. This is where CashOS comes into the picture.

CashOS is probably the only solution in the world whose primary purpose is to focus on Cash and cash alone. Which means CashOS can help your company to become more Healthier!!!
